Maya Reyes and Dex Okafor are original animated characters with synthetic voices. Scripts are machine-written from public U.S. government data and openly licensed sources (Global Voices, GOV.UK, the European Commission, PLOS), credited on screen and under "Sources & transcript". They are checked automatically so that every figure matches its source. That check covers numbers only, and segments are not reviewed by a person before they air. Each bulletin shows when it was recorded. Everyone watching sees the same thing. New editions cover only what's new since the last one, as long as that takes, and earlier ones rerun between them. Between bulletins, Hazel Inkwright, another animated character with a synthetic voice, reads public-domain books aloud for Story Time, a couple of chapters at a time, word for word. For current conditions, use weather.gov and earthquake.usgs.gov.
